Why do you think The Food Basket is an important support organization for hungry on the Big Island?
I believe food is a right and not a privilege therefore everyone has a right to food and for those who don’t the food bank is who provides it. Without the food bank two things will happen…people will go hungry and food will be wasted.
How have you personally supported the services of The Food Basket, why, and will you continue?
I had the privilege of founding the food bank, served as ED and now remain on the Board. I will continue as long as I can contribute to helping folks meet their basic need – food.
Have you ever personally had to access a service like this, or has someone you know had too…how done that feel? (do you think that has allowed you to be more compassionate to the hungry)
No, but I have witnessed first hand many people who have had to ask for food and it is a very humbling experience.
Is there anything else you’d like to say to encourage others to consider the problem of hunger on the Big Island, and support the Food Basket?
If we really share what we have, as much as we can, we will rid hunger on the Big Island.
