Tradition begins as something you do one year and then keep doing every year for reasons that are often very simple, or simply unknown.

Last year, the Office of the County Clerk and the Hawai‘i County Council celebrated the Holidays by participating in the Toys-for-Tots and The Food Basket, Inc. donation campaigns. It was a first that appears to be heading towards tradition.

This year, 140 toys were donated to the Toys-for-Tots campaign to be given to Hawai‘i keiki and The Food Basket, Inc. received 409 pounds of food and personal items and a $20 donation.
“We collected 96 toys and 300 pounds of food and other items last year,” said County Clerk, Ken Goodenow. “I’m really proud of our people for surpassing last year’s donations by such large amounts.”

“We rally around the keiki and enjoy buying toys and gifts,” said County Council Chair, J Yoshimoto. “Supporting The Food Basket, Inc. is equally important because our kōkua needs to impact as many people as possible. We’re already looking forward to next year.”
